A Suffrage Centennial & Pie Social

Date: September 8, 2019
Time: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Location: Comstock House

Join the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County and the League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Minnesota's ratification of the 19th Amendment, popularly recognized as Women's Suffrage. We're celebrating the occasion at the Comstock House with coffee, tea, champagne, lawn games, tours, and 150 slices of pie from Kringen Lodge 25 Sons of Norway!

An outdoor social will begin at 1:00PM and a 2:00PM program will highlight local women who have served as civic leaders (school boards, city councils, county commissioners, state legislators, etc). Former Moorhead councilwoman and Minnesota congresswoman Diane Wray Williams will offer a keynote address.

Admission, drinks, and refreshments are free.

Suffrage Centennial: The March

Location: MSCTC Moorhead Campus

Join us at the Greater Moorhead Days Parade in south Moorhead for a centennial commemoration and celebration of Women's Suffrage. We're marching to highlight Minnesota's contributions to the effort, from early organizers and protesters to the voters and legislators who championed the cause and ultimately ratified the 19th Amendment on September 8, 1919.

If you'd like to take part, join us at the MSCTC west parking lot at 5:00PM. We're carrying a commemorative banner, wearing suffragist sashes (50 available: first-come, first-served), and highlighting the tremendous opportunity and responsibility of your vote. In honor of those suffragist efforts, we're asking you to wear white.

The Suffragist Social is a free event and all ages are welcome. It will be co-hosted by the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County & the League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley.
