The Red River Valley held a successful “Lunch with Leaders” event held September 23 at the Marriott Convention Center in Moorhead. Ten students attended the event keynoted by Speaker of the House Margaret Anderson Kelliher (MN) and Senator Judy Lee (ND). Our speakers had inspiring stories to tell and “words of wisdom” to share regarding their experiences running for and holding office.

With the generous support of our business sponsors, our speakers and those that attended, we will be able to continue our work in non-partisan civic engagement including sponsorship of candidate forums, the Freedom Lecture and leadership development activities. We also hope to have a sequel event in the fall of 2010.

League of Women Voter’s of ND to hold annual meeting in Jamestown. Lloyd Omdahl and Representative Cory Mock to speak on redistricting.
The ND League of Women Voters will be holding their annual meeting in Jamestown on September 13 at the Buffalo City Grille. Speakers at the annual meeting will address the topic of redistricting faced in the upcoming year. Lloyd Omdahl and Representative Cory Mock of Grand Forks, ND have and will continue to work extensively on this issue in North Dakota. They will explore the benefits and pitfalls of reapportionment and a discussion will be held on the best way to approach the issue. The League of Women Voters of ND is currently studying redistricting reform in ND. The goal is to reach a consensus on this position in time to weigh in on decision made regarding the 2010 Census.
The League feels that the issues to be addressed are the retention of equal distribution of districts (one person one vote), fairness should be maintained across ethnic groups, and partisan gerrymandering should be opposed.
Those interested in the topic or in joining the League of Women Voters should attend. If you want to attend or request more details please contact Susan at 701-297-6815 or
